The programme

What happens in the world

Before anyone opens an app, a field agent has already been there. TakaHub's programme is the human infrastructure behind the entire ecosystem.

Field activation

TakaHub field agents work ward by ward — running community meetings, recruiting waste pickers, and explaining how the ecosystem works in plain Swahili. This is the first human touchpoint for most pickers. Without it, no other TakaLink product has anyone to serve.

Training

Practical, Swahili-first onboarding for new pickers and aggregators. Covers TakaApp operation, weighing and verification, and EPR incentive mechanics. Designed for low-literacy contexts — demonstration-led, not document-led.

Community campaigns

Ward-level and city-wide drives to raise awareness, recruit participants, and maintain momentum. Coordinated across SMS, printed materials, and in-person events. Every campaign is measurable — reach and conversion feed back into TakaData.

TakaOlympics

Gamified tournaments and challenges that drive adoption, healthy competition, and community pride. Leaderboards, milestone rewards, and seasonal events — powered by TakaData, coordinated through TakaHub's engagement platform.

The platform

What exists digitally

The platform gives the programme permanence. Every training session, campaign, and identity it creates becomes a verified, lasting record in the ecosystem.

Digital IDs

TakaHub issues every picker a verified digital identity — unique, phone-linked, and connected directly to TakaData. For many, this is their first verifiable economic identity. Without it: no TakaPay, no TakaScore, no formal recognition.

Training content

Centrally managed materials, versioned and distributed to field agents. Always current — no outdated photocopies, no inconsistent messaging between wards.

Campaign management

Tools for planning, executing, and measuring community campaigns. Tracks reach, registrations, and activation rates per ward. Campaign data feeds TakaData.

Impact reporting

Closes the loop back to communities. Tells a ward how much material it collected this month. Tells a picker how many kilograms they've diverted from landfill this year. Turns data into pride and retention.

Field agent tools

A dedicated interface for field agents — onboarding pickers, issuing digital IDs, logging training sessions, and recording campaign activities. Programme intentions become platform records.

Ecosystem integration

TakaHub is the entry point for every picker. Digital IDs link to TakaApp, TakaPay, and TakaScore. Participation data flows to TakaData. Every tool downstream of TakaHub.

TakaNiPesa · flagship initiative

Waste is money.

Taka ni Pesa.

TakaNiPesa is TakaHub's behaviour-change programme — turning inconsistent informal workers into reliable, engaged ecosystem participants through incentives, recognition, and financial literacy. A brand within a brand, and the most emotionally resonant programme in the ecosystem.

Earned incentives — consistent collection behaviour is rewarded through TakaPay disbursements, milestone bonuses, and recognition across the ecosystem.
Recognition — top pickers are surfaced in community leaderboards, TakaOlympics standings, and impact reports. Visibility is its own reward.
Financial literacy — sessions delivered in Swahili connecting collection activity to income, credit history, and long-term financial identity.

The onboarding funnel

TakaHub owns the top of the chain

Every picker in the ecosystem entered through this funnel. Before a single transaction is recorded, TakaHub has already done its work.

1
Community contact
A field agent reaches a picker through a campaign, community meeting, or word of mouth. First human touchpoint — entirely offline, entirely in Swahili.
TakaHub programme
2
Training session
Picker attends a TakaHub training session. Learns TakaApp, weighing, verification, and EPR incentives. Demonstration-led, low-literacy accessible.
TakaHub programme
3
Digital ID issued
Field agent creates the picker's digital identity on the TakaHub platform. Phone-linked, connected to TakaData. Their ecosystem passport.
TakaHub platform
4
TakaApp activated
Digital ID links to TakaApp. Picker logs collections, weights, and GPS. Data writes to TakaData on next sync.
TakaApp
5
First collection recorded
First immutable transaction in TakaData. The picker is now a verified actor in the waste economy.
TakaData
6
First payment & credit begins
TakaPay disburses their EPR incentive share. TakaScore begins building their credit history. Taka ni Pesa — waste is money.

Funding model

Funded as a community investment by EPR producers — the companies whose packaging enters the waste stream. TakaHub puts that obligation directly into the hands of the communities dealing with it.
